PADI Open Water Certification*
LEARN TO SCUBA DIVE
The world of underwater adventure awaits you! It’s a great activity with friends, co-workers, family or to meet new people. Our seasoned, PADI certified instructors will teach you how to scuba dive in three phases.
Phase 1: We start with developing your knowledge of the basic principles of scuba diving. This is done at a Scuba New York classroom or through PADI’s eLearning option in the privacy of your own space. You will be quizzed after each of the five areas of knowledge and given a final test to ensure your mastery of the information.
Phase 2: After you’re outfitted by one of our experienced divers in our onsite PADI dive shop, your instructor will teach you to use the equipment and dive, in our heated, salt water pool, the only one of its kind in the region. You’ll master a series of five confined water dives, each building upon the previous set of skills. Like in Phase 1, the pace is based upon each individual’s progress.
Phase 3: To be certified, you’ll successfully complete a series of open water checkout dives, either through Scuba New York (we’ll cheer you on!) or test out your new skills at a PADI dive shop/center while on vacation—anywhere in the world.
*Scuba Diving Requirements
- Age: Minimum age to participate is 10; no maximum age. However, students 10-12 years of age must enroll in a private class. Minors require parental or guardian’s written permission. In certain circumstances, you may be required to obtain physician’s approval prior to beginning certification.
- Swimming Ability: Must be able to swim 200 yards and tread water for 10 minutes.
Group and Private Scuba Courses
Weekend Xpress Course—Scuba New York Exclusive! Group
Get ready to go diving in one weekend! Sign up for the Weekend Xpress. Start Friday night, and by Sunday evening, you’ll be ready to explore the underwater world. Note: Participants must master Phases 1 and 2 (above) to be certified; this is the goal of Weekend Xpress. Phase 3 (PADI Open Water Certification) would follow at either Scuba New York or at a PADI dive shop/center, with locations at vacation spots worldwide.
The “1-on-1” Scuba Course Private
If a group scuba session doesn’t fit your schedule, no worries. Just say the word and we’ll set up private instruction with a top-notch, PADI certified instructor. No other dive center in the area offers the same level of privacy (our pool or yours) and scheduling flexibility (we’re not competing for pool time with beginner swim classes). How would you like to be certified in as few as 3 days? Or, if you’d like to complete your PADI Open Water Certification dives during an upcoming vacation (Phase 3 above), we’ll provide the required hours of theory and pool-time instruction before you leave (Phases 1 and 2).
We’re also happy to set up semi-private sessions. For example, if you and your bestie would like to learn together, we can make that happen. Tell us your scheduling restrictions and we’ll do our best to accomodate you.
We understand there are occasions and circumstances which require privacy. Our promise: We employ the upmost discretion in these cases.
